Carbon Farming MED
Carbon Farming MED is a collaborative project supporting Mediterranean countries in meeting the EU’s 2035 climate goals in agriculture. It aims to establish the first cross-border platform in the region for trading carbon credits, promoting sustainable farming practices and economic opportunities. By enhancing carbon sequestration and supporting eco-friendly agriculture, the project advances climate neutrality and fosters regional cooperation in combating climate change.
Carbon Farming MED key activities include:
- Developing a Framework: Crafting a comprehensive carbon farming framework tailored specifically for the Mediterranean region.
- Carbon Measurement and Reduction: Measuring soil carbon capture and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Creating a Carbon Credit Market: Establishing and promoting a Mediterranean market for carbon credits derived from regenerative agricultural practices.
- Knowledge Sharing: Disseminating best practices and knowledge to encourage widespread adoption of carbon farming.
By equipping farmers with the necessary tools and support, we help them implement carbon farming as a viable green business model. This enables them to generate additional revenue through carbon credits and access funding opportunities, promoting both environmental and economic sustainability.
EURAF brings its expertise in agroforestry and its wide member network to support:
-
Development of guidelines and policy recommendations;
-
Creation of good practice guidance for sustainable land management;
-
Integration of agroforestry into the broader carbon farming framework.
